Washington State Lobby Day
January 26, 2026 | Youth Tobacco Prevention Washington
On Monday, January 26, dozens of Washington middle and high schoolers headed to Olympia for a day of advocacy to ask their lawmakers to vote yes to SB 6129 and HB 2382 that will raise the cigarette tax by $2. They also underscored the importance of ending the sale of flavored tobacco.
By early afternoon, the students and staff had met with more than 35 elected officials, including representatives from the bill sponsors leading the effort to raise the tax, Senator June Robinson and Representative Lisa Parshley.
Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids Youth Ambassador Suhani Singh also testified on the House bill hearing to increase the cigarette tax. She shared her personal experiences of how pervasive youth vaping is at her school and how her best friend developed a nicotine addiction from flavored tobacco. She urged them to vote yes on the bill.
